News, Views and Issues: Welcome to SLCliberty

Welcome to the St. Lawrence County Republitarian blog.  I am Randy Streu (aka r2streu here in blogland), and as it says in my bio, I’m a local radio DJ.  Though this is my first localized political blog, I’ve been blogging about politics in particular for about four years at various sites, including RedState (where I’m known simply as ‘rstreu’) and a national blog I co-founded, called “Society for Independent Thinking.”

And that is, officially, enough about my political resume.

If you’re like me, you probably skipped right over that first paragraph and have been wondering, “what the heck is a ‘republitarian?’  Is it what I think it is?”  And if you’re really like me, then yes, it probably is.  In short, it describes my political affiliation better than one of the labels that actually exists.  When there’s no other word for it, make one up.  My leanings are basically somewhere between the Libertarian and Constitution (fka US Taxpayers) Parties.  The ideals and basic platform of the Republican Party are very close, for the most part, to my own — and since the other two parties don’t generally win national elections, I am a registered Republican.  If it matters to you, I’m sure we’ll visit more about where I stand ideologically in later blogs (or you can check out the Independent Thinking blog linked above).

But all of this brings us to the point: the purpose of this particular blog.  Why, if I already blog in other places, have I decided to create a third political blog?  Simply, this is a blog about St. Lawrence County, New York.  The Land that Albany Forgot.  We are a small town spread over a gigantic county, and we have other issues than just national, or even state, politics.  The purpose of this blog is to examine the local news and issues of the day, through the lens of mainaining and strenghtening our liberty and our society.

Don’t worry… it’s not all gonna be politics.  Sometimes, I’ll just discuss the news, and give you the chance to discuss it, too.  Which brings us to the other purpose.  This is my blog — but it is our community.  I want to invite you, St. Lawrence County, to join the conversation, whether you agree with me or not.  This is a place to share your own views on what’s going on.  A great thing about America is the diversity of opinion, and the chance to share that opinion.  I do hope you’ll stop by again.  The first “official” post will be up soon, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Thanks for stopping by.
